Juliet Abram from the recovery website, The Fix, recently wrote about “Gender Bias in AA” where she interviewed Stephanie Covington about her thoughts on women’s issues in 12-step recovery.
Alcoholics Anonymous started in 1935 and focused on supporting recovery from the perspective of married men. AA’s Big Book, the basic text of AA, continues to include primarily male examples.
Abram talks to Covington about women’s need for safety in early recovery, the value of women-only groups, and additional supports and resources for women in AA.
