FASD prevention activities funded by Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority

The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) announced new funding last week for FASD initiatives. (This is in addition to funds made available earlier this spring; see a previous post here).

The funds have been awarded to two organizations: the FASD Support Network of Saskatchewan ($75,000) and to the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute (SPI) ($90,000).

The FASD Support Network of Saskatchewan will use funds for the development and distribution of a FASD newsletter as well as other resource material focused on parenting and mental health issues related to FASD while the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute will use the funds to help promote FASD awareness and support work regarding alcohol use and FASD awareness among post-secondary students and to continue regional FASD committees and the FASD Speakers’ Bureau.

The video above is called “Thank You, Mom” and was  developed  by youth for the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute’s Youth Action for Prevention Project. The youth wrote, filmed, acted, and created the music for the video. It was released this spring, just in time for Mother’s Day (May 8, 2011).
