Medication Database for Addictions Counsellors

Psychotherapeutic Medications 2011: What Every Counselor Should Know

The Rx Database ( is a “desk-top reference” of medications commonly prescribed in the treatment of persons with alcohol, drug and mental health conditions. It is a searchable database that offers up-to-date information on generic and brand name medications. It provides a basic understanding of medication dose, frequency, side effects, emergency conditions, abuse potential, and, last but not least, cautions and considerations for pregnant women.

The web site contents can be downloaded as a 52-page PDF which you can carry around on any form of technology that pleases you.

The site also includes a link to the Pillbox Tool developed by the National Institutes of Health which allows you to quickly identify an unknown pill – pretty cool.
