Alcohol and drug conference to be held in Vancouver, BC on Nov 6-9, 2011


Issues of Substance (IOS) is the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse’s national conference on alcohol and drugs and is held every two years in November to complement National Drug and Addictions Awareness Week.

The organizers have just announced a call for abstracts. Anyone involved in or affected directly or indirectly by alcohol and other drugs and substances is invited to submit one or more relevant abstracts. This includes addiction specialists, treatment providers, clinical staff, public health nurses, hospital staff, law enforcement and corrections officers, researchers, students, policy makers, private sector professionals, and people in treatment and/or recovery and their family members. Deadline for submissions is April 19, 2011.

The conference usually draws approximately 600 attendees from a range of backgrounds – public health practitioners and preventions specialists (e.g., public health nurses, social workers, clinical staff ), allied professionals (e.g., hospital staff, law enforcement personnel, corrections workers), researchers, academics, policy makers and private sector professionals.
